St Marylebone Church, Marylebone, W1
An entrance on the north-west side of the church from the church garden with a view of the side path that empties out onto Marylebone Road. The area known as Marylebone took its name from one of London's now hidden rivers that flowed south to the Thames. Its name is the Tyburn or Tybourne (originally Teoburna) said to mean "boundary stream". In 1400, a parish church was built here and dedicated to St Mary. The church, and the village that grew up around it, became known as "St Mary at the Bourne" or "St Mary by the Tybourne", or as the Anglo-Normanized version, "St Mary a le Bourne". These were was eventually contracted to the modern St. Marylebone.
