Vale of Health, Hampstead Heath
Vale of Health, Hampstead Heath
In the 18th century this area was notorious as a malarial marsh, according to the London Encyclopaedia. In 1777 the Hampstead Water Company drained the marsh, and it became an area of fashionable residences. This view from the heath above extends down to towers in the City of London and Docklands.
