Horizontal single cylinder engine by Bryan Donkin of Chesterfield, one of a pair used at Bridgewater Gas Works, Somerset. The cylinder is 9" x 10" and there are twin 36" flywheels. This drove a Beale's sliding vane exhauster to pull gas off the retorts. The exhauster is not on display (and might not be preserved) but there is a gas governor lying nearby that could well have been associated with this or sister engines.
