Abbey Pumping Station - boiler in a box
In order to run all four large beam engines together for a special event, it was necessary to hire a boiler in an articulated lorry trailer. This is a Byworth Boilers - Yorkshireman that can produce up to 10,000 lbs/hour. It is a high-efficiency, fully automated dual fuel, single furnace, three pass, wet-back packaged boiler. The hire company was running it for three, although the hire and fuel (gas oil) came to an impressive sum for the weekend.

The hire company could not speak too highly of these all-British boilers from Yorkshire and they are certainly becoming popular with preservationists.
