Clay Scrape in Belhus Woods
Clay Scrape in Belhus Woods
The woods in Belhus Country Park near Aveley are pockmarked with ponds formed from clay scrapes such as this one, testament to the industrial past of the area. The clay was extracted for brick making until the late 19th century. This particular part of Belhus Woods is called Brick kiln Wood. The weather has been fairly dry lately so they are drying out.
