Entrance to Bembridge Fort
Entrance to Bembridge Fort
The fort is in the care of the National Trust and is in course of restoration, so there is only restricted access to it at present. It was built in the 1860s as part of the defences against a possible invasion by Napoleon III of France, and was used for various other military purposes until 1948. It is a scheduled ancient monument.
