Castles of Leinster: Edenderry, Offaly
On a hill in a public park above the town of Edenderry are the remains of a ruined tower. It was held in 1556 by Sir Nicholas Herbert, but granted to the Cooleys in 1562 and still held by them in 1622. From the 1650s until the C18 it was called Blundell Castle, after the Blundell family who then owned it. The remains are now quite fragmentary, although still rising three storeys high on the east and south.
