NS2480 : Kilcreggan pier

Kilcreggan pier
Kilcreggan pier
In the old days the Clyde steamers stopped here regularly and arriving passengers would pay a 1d 'pier due' to go ashore.

This area is full of large baronial mansions built by well-to-do Glasgow merchants who would commute daily or weekly from this pier and others in the area to the centre of Glasgow. The steamers could do 15 to 20 knots and would take less than 90 minutes to the Broomielaw in Glasgow city centre. Today, with good luck on connections, it still takes about 75minutes at best by ferry and train.
