Road across Lacock Bridge
Road across Lacock Bridge
There are two bridges here, over the River Avon, and causeway between them. The Grade II* listed structure has English Heritage Building ID: 315434. The oldest parts date from the late medieval period up to the 17th C. They were known as 'Foot Bridge'. Surviving records indicate that for much of the 17th C. the Bridge was too dilapidated for wheeled traffic to cross. Therefore much of the present fabric must be later restoration and dating from the early 19th C. See: LinkExternal link
