NX0299 : Beach, Ailsa Craig

taken 13 years ago, near to Foreland Point [other Features], South Ayrshire, Great Britain

Beach, Ailsa Craig
Beach, Ailsa Craig
Shingle beach and some old quarry buildings. The path is an old railway.
Ailsa Craig can be found scattered over the Cheshire Plain as erratics, and I have built cairns of Ailsa granite as orienteering controls in Shropshire. The usual use is in making curling stones, rock is still taken every now and then to refresh world stocks.
