SP9211 : Tring War Memorial
taken 12 years ago, near to Tring, Hertfordshire, England
The Church Square was the site of the old market house Link but that was demolished in 1900 to make and open space in front of the church. It was used for the open air market until the 1970s and then became an untidy car park, but towards the end of the century it was given a complete face lift, with a reproduction Victorian post box and a decent bus shelter. In 2015 the Market returned to where it should always have been - in the centre of the town.
The Town War Memorial SP9211 : Tring War Memorial is at the back of the Square, on the edge of the Churchyard
On August 4th 2014, following a service in the Parish Church, there was a short service of remembrance at the War Memorial in Church Square and the procession then marched to the Memorial Garden to unveil a plaque.
In subsequent years other events linked to the war and remembering those who died took place.
