The church has its origins in the 12th century with additions and restorations in the intervening centuries notably 13th, 14th, 15th, 17th and 19th. The tower was built in stages over two hundred years culminating in the bell stage built in the 15th century. The interior is notable for the remains of ancient religious wall-paintings and inscriptions which were covered over during the Restoration of the Charles II years and only uncovered in the 20th century. There are several exterior features of interest including several gargoyles, a sundial, a mass dial and a Sheila-na-Gig. The church is listed Grade I Link
