Millstone Grit
Millstone Grit
Millstone Grit is the local name for this coarse grained sandstone, this name is derived from its earlier use in the manufacturing of mill stones. The rock was formed in layers in the Carboniferous period, it consists in the greater part of angular grains of varying size but as can be seen in the photograph some small rounded pebbles are present.
