NN3004 : Former site of a curling pond

taken 10 years ago, near to Tarbet, Argyll And Bute, Scotland

Former site of a curling pond
Former site of a curling pond
Near the centre of the picture, and helpfully highlighted by the sun, is a rectangular area, which was formerly a curling pond. At the time of writing, the 1:25000 map OS depicts it as a water-filled rectangle. A local heritage trail leaflet points out the site.

The curling pond does not appear on the first-edition OS map, surveyed in 1860, but it was present by around 1896, when the second edition of the map was surveyed.
