Hailes Castle, nr East Linton
Hailes is one of the oldest stone castles surviving in Scotland. It comprises a 14th century keep, extended by ranges and towers in the 15th and 16th centuries, all within a thick 13th century curtain wall.
Its other claim to fame is that it hosted Mary Queen of Scots and Boswell on the 5th May 1567
