SH6972 : Glacial erratic boulder (1)

taken 10 years ago, near to Llanfairfechan, Conwy, Wales

Glacial erratic boulder (1)
A large boulder lies partly buried on the gentle col between Garreg Fawr and a smaller hill to the south. My geograph assistants provide a scale. It appears to be of dolerite, suggested by its rough-weathering surface, and a likely source would be Tal-y-fan SH7472 : Tal y Fan Volcanic Formation which is higher and to the east. The curious, scree-covered slopes of Dinas SH7073 : Frost-shattered rock lie on the opposite side of the Afon Llanfairfechan valley.
