Hamstead Lodge and entrance gates
Hamstead Lodge and entrance gates
This imposing private house was built around 1720 as a lodge to the great mansion of Hamstead Marshall Park, built for the 1st Earl of Craven in 1663. The English Heritage Building ID: 39760 for this Grade II listed building refers to it as Edgecombe Nursing Home but that manifestation only occurred in the 1960's. Death duties forced the wealthy Craven family to sell their house and lands in the parish in 1984.
