This view of De Montfort Square from De Montfort Street includes a view of this statue - in Sicilian marble - of Robert Hall (1764-1831). The Rev. Robert Hall was born in Arnesby, Leics. and became a Baptist minister. Late in his career (c.1806) he served a small congregation in Harvey Lane in the city. He was a learned, though sometimes controversial minister who suffered several bouts of mental illness during a career that took him to various parts of the United Kingdom. The statue was unveiled in 1871.
