Brundrit's Penmaen Quarry
Brundrit's Penmaen Quarry
Now long-disused, but prominent on the eastern side of Penmaen Mawr is this quarry opened by Brundrit's company, probably around 1834 to augment production from their West Quarry near Llanfairfechan. This location also has the delightful name of Bonc Jolly and was the site of their first works, long since removed from the landscape. Nowadays the wide level is used for storage of materials for the readymix concrete business of Hanson's. The main quarry is mothballed following the loss in 2008 of the contract to supply Network Rail with track ballast. The grey obelisk is a wall of the shelter used by the men controlling traffic on the incline to the jetty.
