Albert and the Lion
Albert and the Lion
Albert and the Lion was a very famous monologue about Blackpool and totally appropriate for Wetherspoon's to name this pub Albert and the Lion as the offending weapon was purchased from Woolworth's and this building was previously Woolworth's and the lion was in the menagerie of Blackpool Tower which is adjacent to the pub. Written by Marriott Edgar, the monologue was performed by Stanley Holloway and became one of Holloway's most popular pieces, one of many he recorded in the 1930's. Words below:-
