ST1976 : Tower entrance

St James the Great church is now shut to worshippers. The original building was an iron version, now replaced by this striking and strident stone site. It held services here from 1890 until 2006, but the outlook for it seems unlikely to continue with religion. The Grade II church was sold at auction in 2007 for 500,000 and plans drawn up to create a seven floor apartment in the spire, no less. However, it is still derelict and vacant today.

Above the doorway on the right is a small carving of St John the Baptist. See ST1976 : St James the Great, not so great now for another view.
