See NS4282 : Bedeguar gall on dog rose for a mature gall; the incipient galls, as shown in the present picture, look quite different. These galls, which are common, are caused by a wasp, Diplolepsis rosae. The wild rose plants were on the western side of the path, at the junction shown in NS3976 : The approach to Mains of Cardross.
