Tour of Peebles bridges, Soonhope Burn
Tour of Peebles bridges, Soonhope Burn
A group on a tour round 20 bridges in Peebles, led by retired bridge engineer Jim Lyon, and part of Peebles Arts Festival 2014. This small bridge was built by Sir John Hay, landowner, to allow parishioners to walk to church without encroaching on the grounds of Kingsmeadows House across the river. Hay built a suspension footbridge, the 'Wire Bridge' about 1km downstream for access from the S bank of the Tweed. This bridge no longer exists, but its name remains as 'Wire Bridge Cottage' at the site - see NT2640 : River Tweed and Wire Bridge Cottage, Peebles.
