Freightliner offices, Ipswich
Freightliner offices, Ipswich
Ipswich is an important location for rail freight: trains from the port of Felixstowe either reverse here to head for the Midlands and north via Ely and Peterborough, or change from diesel traction to electric to travel to or via London, with corresponding arrangements for trains to Felixstowe. Therefore, many freight locomotives, particularly those belonging to Freightliner, can often be seen here, and these offices presumably contain train crew facilities. However, a north curve to allow trains between the Ely line and Felixstowe to avoid reversing at Ipswich is to open soon, which will reduce the importance of Ipswich in rail freight terms.
