Flower festival at Rolvenden
The earliest evidence at St Mary the Virgin Rolvenden is from the 13th century - these are two lancets in the chancel and parts of two more in the south wall. The church has an early 14th century nave and the tower is slightly later.

The flower festival in 2014 had a theme of Aesop's Fables. Aesop was reputed to be a slave living in ancient Greece around 620-520 BC. He was a story teller who loved to collect fables with a moral. This one is 'The Frogs and the Well'.

Two frogs lived together in a marsh. One hot summer the marsh dried up and they left it for another place to live as frogs like damp places. They came to a deep well and one of them said to the other "This looks a nice cool place. Let us jump in and settle here." The other, though, who had a wiser head on his shoulders replied "Not so fast my friend. Suppose this well dried up like the marsh. How would we get out again?" The moral is 'Think twice before you act'.
