Flower festival at Rolvenden
The earliest evidence at St Mary the Virgin Rolvenden is from the 13th century - these are two lancets in the chancel and parts of two more in the south wall. The church has an early 14th century nave and the tower is slightly later.

The flower festival in 2014 had a theme of Aesop's Fables. Aesop was reputed to be a slave living in ancient Greece around 620-520 BC. He was a story teller who loved to collect fables with a moral. This one is 'The Hare and the Tortoise'.

A hare made fun of a tortoise for being so slow on his feet. "Wait said the tortoise. I will run a race with you and I wager that I will win." The hare replied "Let's try and see". When the time came the hare was so far ahead he thought he would stop for a rest. Meanwhile the tortoise kept plodding on and eventually reached the finish line. The hare woke up with a start and dashed on at his fastest, only to find the tortoise had won the race. The moral is 'Slow and steady wins the race'.
