Canoeists at Saul Junction
Canoeists at Saul Junction
I like the positions of the people on the footbridge here. Immediately in front of the canoe is the entrance to the now abandoned Stroudwater Canal, which connected Stroud with the Severn Estuary and which crossed the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal here. Now the remaining navigable arm of the canal is used as the entrance to Saul Junction Marina, but there is a restoration scheme which ultimately aims not only to reopen the Stroudwater Canal but also to reopen the entire route of the Thames & Severn Canal from the end of the Stroudwater to the Thames near Lechlade.
