Renovation work on the Mecca Bingo Hall has been going on of late. This building was originally the Odeon Cinema, built in 1935-6 to the design of Harry Weedon and Cecil Clavering and it finally closed on 1st December 1962. It became a Top Rank bingo hall for a time and now is owned by Mecca. It was Grade II listed on 10th October 1980 as being a rare survival of an Art Deco cinema. My late mother used to play here on occasions.
