The lumpy little island of Steep Holm can be seen clearly if somewhat hazily from Minehaed approximately 30km (20 miles) away. The highest point on Steep Holm is 78m (256') above sea level. Its area varies considerably with the tide, between about 49 and 63 acres (20 and 25 ha). Steep Holm is an English island while its somewhat larger sister island of Flat Holm just a few miles from it, is Welsh.
