SP9978 : Nine Arches Bridge

taken 4 years ago, near to Islip, Northamptonshire, Great Britain

Nine Arches Bridge
Nine Arches Bridge
This low nine-arched bridge spans the River Nene between Islip and Thrapston.

15th century records describe a seven arch bridge on the present site. Later the bridge was extended to 24 arches but when the railway was built in the 19th century, the length was reduced to form the present nine arch bridge.
