The Banqueting House at Melford Hall
The Banqueting House at Melford Hall
Melford Hall was built at the start of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, although little of the Elizabethan work survives inside, not helped by a fire in 1942 which destroyed much of the North Wing. Beatrix Potter was a frequent visitor to the house and set many scenes in her books here.

This view across the garden looks to the Banqueting House which dates from the 17th century. It stands alone away from the house and was intended to impress visitors as they could take meals outside the immediate confines of the house and look over the garden.
