This building does not have any relationship to the nearby 'main line' (now preserved) railway. However it formerly housed the winding engine for the Haw Bank tramway, which connected the Haw Bank quarry with the Springs Branch of the Leeds and Liverpool canal by means of drops, of which the site can be seen by walking up the towpath of the branch
