Unusual quartzite intrusion, Ilfracombe
Unusual quartzite intrusion, Ilfracombe
In the rock face beside the "Gentlemen's beach" at Ilfracombe is this unusual double row of quartzite intruded into the mass of "ilfracombe" slate like two rows of stitches. The two rows are somewhat different in that the lower row comprises evenly spaced short almost straight intrusions, while the upper row is less evenly spaced and each intrusion is more convoluted.
See close-up images of each of these rows -
Lower row SS5147 : Quartzite intrusion - lower row
Upper row SS5147 : Quartzite intrusion - upper row
