SK3041 : Lodges, Kedleston

taken 6 years ago, near to Kedleston, Derbyshire, Great Britain

Lodges, Kedleston
Lodges, Kedleston
Flanking the north-west entrance to Kedleston Hall. Windows in blind arches and delicate friezes of paterae. Dated c1775. Pevsner suggests Robert Adam as the architect while the listing suggests Adam's draughtsman, George Richardson. The latter is plausible, but Richardson is not known to have designed many buildings in his own right. Grade II* listed.
There is a postbox in the right-hand lodge's lean-to.
