NR1651 : Caolas nan Gall, Islay

taken 3 years ago, near to Port Wemyss, Argyll And Bute, Great Britain

Caolas nan Gall, Islay
Caolas nan Gall, Islay
'Strait of the foreigners'. According to Dwelly's, one of the translations for 'Gall' is 'Foreigner, stranger, especially a native of the south of Scotland or a Scot that cannot speak Gaelic'. This would make sense as immigrants could be approaching Islay through this narrow strait from the south.
