A339 near Greenham Common
There have been three new roundabouts constructed on this section of the A339 since the turn of the millennium; two of which give access to New Greenham Park. This is a newly developed commercial estate on land which was the Greenham Common Air Base, once the location of Britain's nuclear missiles. Before the airbase was built on Greenham Common, the A339 was routed through Stroud Green, and cut straight across the common, rejoining the current route here.
The A339
The A339 runs for almost 35miles between Newbury in Berkshire and Alton in Hampshire. Along the way, it forms the eastern and northern parts of the Basingstoke Ring Road.
