The A339 used to pass directly through the village of Kingsclere until this one-lane dual carriageway bypass was constructed in the 1970s. The road now takes traffic around the northern side of the village and features a staggered junction with the B3051 with a wide central reservation for cars waiting to turn.

The A339 runs for almost 35miles between Newbury in Berkshire and Alton in Hampshire. Along the way, it forms the eastern and northern parts of the Basingstoke Ring Road.
