The huge-tyred Walters vehicle is one of several large items of road construction machinery to be seen here today (in May 2014) working on the construction of the new route of the A465.
Dualling A465 road from Brynmawr to Tredegar
The A465 between Abergavenny and Neath connects the northern ends of the South Wales valleys and is therefore commonly known as the Heads of the Valleys road.
It is planned to improve the whole of this road up to dual 2-lane standard by 2020.
Compulsory purchase orders for the Brynmawr to Tredegar section were issued in August 2012 and the work is scheduled to be completed in early 2015. For most of this section, the existing A465 will be replaced by a new road to the north.
