Originally built as a herring drifter and launched in 1916, de Gallant's hull was rebuilt by the Tall Ship Gallant Foundation some 70 years after she was first launched. The restoration was part of a Dutch government-aided employment scheme to provide young people with work experience. De Gallant is a common presence at European sailing events (I saw her last year and earlier this year in the Round the World Clipper Race, when she was festooned with a colourful array of flags - see TQ3877 : And now for the Gallant finale!).
