TQ7179 : The Dutch ketch 'Iris', off Lower Hope Point

taken 3 years ago, 3 km from Mucking, Thurrock, Great Britain

The Dutch ketch 'Iris', off Lower Hope Point
The Dutch ketch 'Iris', off Lower Hope Point
Seen as she leaves Sea Reach and heads into the Hope, bound for Greenwich after taking part in the 2014 Tall Ships Race.

Iris is said to have been built in 1916, as a herring lugger: LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )

In the distance is the Essex shore of the Thames near Mucking Creek. The water tower at the old Fisons fertiliser site is just out of frame to the left - so the direction of view is approximately NNW.
