Former Ossington Coffee Palace, Castle Gate, Newark-on-Trent
One of three excellent Victorian buildings in the town. In a Domestic Revival style - half-timbering (SK7954 : Ossington Coffee Palace), oriels, big stacks - though the arcaded ground floor adds a Continental flavour. It was built in 1882 to the designs of Ernest George & Peto. Grade II* listed.
Originally a temperance establishment (like George & Peto's earlier TQ3070 : Former Beehive Tavern, Streatham High Road), now home to a branch of Zizzi, Italian restaurants.
