The device is the shield of the Eyre family, after whom the village pub is also named. The crosses are supposed to be quatrefoils.
Nottinghamshire's new village signs
The main panel of these signs is a bas-relief in cast aluminium with a scene or emblem specific to the village concerned and hand painted. Some villages have chosen to display more than one design.
In many cases designs have been contributed or inspired by local school children. They make a welcome replacement for the standard Worboys style signs which they replace.
