This bench mark was established in 1851 during the First primary levelling of England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 184.8480 feet [56.3417 metres] above mean sea level (Liverpool datum). It was included as a side level on the Sheffield to Birmingham levelling line. The surveyor's description was "All Saints' Church, Alrewas Village. Bolt in West side of tower ; 2.00 ft. above surface." (Public Abstract p.360) The mark can be found just to the right of the west door.
