Halgavor Bridge
Halgavor Bridge
Suspension bridge with GRP plastic deck beams and steel mesh panel parapets.

As a bridge designer I have looked at a number of these relatively novel plastic bridges. This one is fairly robust and unlike some of the others takes a fair bit of excitation to get any noticeable movement. Hailed as a promising alternative to conventional steel or concrete structures even for road bridges the technique has not progressed very far. In the rail sector GRP has been more readily adopted and is now used for station platforms.
