Tumulus and Obelisk
Tumulus and Obelisk
"The obelisk was erected to commemorate the introduction of pure water from the chalk formation into Swanage. The granite was taken down from the Mansion House, London and re-erected here 1892". Thus saith the inscription on its base. The mound is a tumulus, a prehistoric burial site.
