SY8279 : Lulworth Cove

Lulworth Cove
Lulworth Cove
At the east side of the cove, the rock strata are tilted at a steep angle. You can see a smooth slightly folded surface of the Purbeck Beds, and in the clear water the beds extend towards the corresponding ones on the west side, which are also steeply dipping. The ribs are hard Cretaceous to Jurassic limestones, standing proud from softer clays, shales and mudstones which have been eroded by the sea.
