Twyford Waterworks - 1934 diesel engine
Twyford Waterworks - 1934 diesel engine
This 'temporary' wooden building was built in 1934 to house a Ruston Hornsby 3 cyl diesel driving a Gwynnes centrifugal pump. It was intended to relocate the engine into the new diesel house when that was finished but it was decided to avoid the trouble and leave it where it is. The engine has never had a major overhaul and runs very sweetly, although the pump and gear box are disconnected. The charging compressor has now been replaced with an external electrically driven machine as it was getting 'tired' and struggling to reach 300 psi. The volunteer is barring to the starting position.
