Twyford Waterworks - diesel engine
Twyford Waterworks - diesel engine
This is a Ruston type 4VER diesel engine driving a Gwynnes two stage centrifugal pump via a speed increasing gear box. The cylinders are 11" x 14.5" and it developed 160 kW at 428 rpm. It pumped 3 million gallons/day from the softening plant to the Twyford reservoir and was built in 1935. This engine is coming to the end of a major rebuild and may be running again at the public open day in October 2014.
