Shake Hole. A mine or a cave?
Shake Hole. A mine or a cave?
The map labels this "Shake Hole". I'm not sure if that's a technical term or just its name.
There is a gate into the enclosure and a locked hatchway in the covering grill so I'm guessing this has been opened up to give access for caving.
There are mines and caves all over this area and exploring them is a popular pastime.
Update:- It's a "Cornish" mine shaft, known as Stainsby's Shaft. Thanks to Mike for that info.
