Jack Harkness observes: "Along with the Gallicas and Damasks, the Albas constitute the truly old garden roses; the Centifolias made the fourth group. Their origin is unknown…Their hallmarks are pale colours and noble bushy plants, with tough foliage, slightly blue-green…They are strong, hardy, enduring, fragrant, delightful." 'Queen of Denmark', as she is sometimes listed, is "not quite typical of the Albas…it is the deepest colour among them…fragrance glorious." If not dead-headed the flowers turn a pleasing brown and may produce hips.
